A business in Larchmont is reopening its doors after being destroyed by a fire a year ago.
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Excelsior Cleaners on Boston Post Road is now back in business.
Thursday's grand opening comes exactly one year after a fast-moving fire ripped through the store.
On Dec. 19, 2018, a two-alarm fire broke out in the store and destroyed everything, including the machinery and all the garments. Jonathan Kaufman, the owner of the 55-year-old business, says the fire started when a power tool a contractor was using to repair the floors ignited.

The 2,000-square-foot store is now equipped with all new environmentally friendly machines.
Kaufman says the past year has been pretty rough. "Not having the store after my family has owned it for 55 years was kind of devastating. Luckily the community, whenever I saw somebody, they were uplifting. The police have been a big help and the town of Mamaroneck was a big help."
Kaufman adds that almost all of the original employees are back on the job.
