A school safety program in Northern Westchester will continue after Westchester County renewed its agreement with the Lakeland Central School District.

The school resource officer program had faced uncertainty amid budget concerns and contract negotiations.

County officials say the agreement will keep school resource officers in place throughout the district.

The renewed contract comes at a significantly higher cost.

Westchester County says funding for the program will increase from about $500,000 to more than $800,000, a 68% increase.

Officials say the agreement ensures the continuation of the program despite concerns it could be eliminated.
