A beloved playground in Coney Island is still in pieces after a fire melted it more than a year ago. Now, many parents and children are wondering when repairs are coming to the park.

A fire destroyed Asser Levy Park Playground in September of 2024. News 12 cameras were at the park this past December, assessing the damage.

The city's Parks Department told News 12 that a contractor was chosen back in October and repairs would be completed by the spring. Now, four months after December, the park looks the same as it did then.

"I would love to see them fix this park," one grandfather told News 12. "We all use it. We live around here, our grandkids and our kids grow up here. And it's a shame that they left the park this way and it's not being utilized the right way."

City council member Inna Verikov, who represents the district, wrote in part, "In our most recent meeting with Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Marty Maher, the completion was estimated to take place this Summer. "

She also recently met with Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura.

News 12 reached out to the Parks Department for more information but has not heard back.
