12ds agoBreezy winds and cooler than average temperatures will be around through the rest of the day. The winds will back down overnight, but the cold air will linger. Numerous areas are under frost advisories tonight in Ulster and Dutchess counties.
Efforts will need to be taken to ensure pets are brought into the household at night (and if they have to stay outside, so that they have some warm covering), potted plants brought in, and unprotected outside plumbing will need to be protected from the cold.
Mostly clear skies are expected through the entire 10-day forecast. The sunshine will go a long way to help make the air feel warmer Wednesday and Thursday, despite the forecast highs being below average.
By Friday and the weekend, temps are back to normal and even getting warmer. High temps could get into the upper 60s to low 70s. Warmer than average temperatures are forecast through much of next week, too!
While the fair skies are nice for outdoor activities, we need the rain. With no rain in sight in the 10-day forecast, the updated drought outlook (that comes out every Thursday) will highly likely show more of the region experience drought conditions.
Some areas already experiencing them now will likely see their situation worsen. The lack of rain is going to put a damper on fall foliage. If trees go a long time without water, they start to stress and will shut down prematurely for the season.
If this is the case, they will have a reduction in both length and variety of color change. They will also shed their leaves quicker as well.

- Rockland: low
- Putnam: low
- Orange: low to moderate
- Dutchess: moderate to high
- Ulster: moderate to peak
FORECAST:
OVERNIGHT: Mostly clear and cold. Temps will feel into the low 30s with a light breeze around. Lows: mid 30s to low 40s.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy and breezy. Highs: mid 50s. Lows: mid 30s.
THURSDAY: Mainly sunny. Highs: upper 50s to low 60s. Lows: upper 30s to low 40s.
FRIDAY: Sunny and seasonal. Highs: low to mid 60s. Lows: upper 30s to low 40s.
SATURDAY: Sunny with a milder breeze. Highs: upper 60s. Lows: mid 40s.
SUNDAY: Mainly sunny. Highs: upper 60s to low 70s. Lows: upper 40s.
MONDAY: Sunny. Highs: upper 60s to low 70s. Lows: upper 40s to low 50s.
