The jurors saw the crime scene video tape Tuesday in the trial of the man accused of murdering a woman at the Galleria Mall because she was white.
Phillip Grant, 44, is accused of stabbing Connie Russo Carriero, 56, to death at the Galleria Mall parking garage in June 2005. The jury saw a six-minute tape of the crime scene, showing the victim?s shoes, a magazine she was carrying and a pool of blood. The tape seemed too much for Russo?s family at times.
The jury also heard the 911 call describing how a woman was bleeding to death in the parking garage. The caller later told police he saw a black male heading toward the stairway but he couldn't positively identify that it was the defendant. The defense argued that Grant isn't the person who committed the crime.
The prosecution also plans to play a 45-minute videotaped confession Grant made to police. Grant, who is a convicted sex offender, is the first person in Westchester to be charged with murder as a hate crime.
