Park Slope 5th graders write book to help wildlife in Africa: You're never too young to make a difference, and a group of fifth graders in Park Slope is doing just that with a brand-new book. For 11-year-old Isobel Levenson, she says she knows a thing or two about conserving wildlife. “We need to protect the wildlife right now more than ever, with all these poachers out there killing these poor animals that just want to eat food and live their lives,” says Levenson.
Police: Lindenhurst man killed in Great South Bay boat crash: Police say one person died in a boat crash in the Great South Bay, south of Babylon. Police say just before 3 p.m. Sunday, David Nostrand, of Farmingdale, was operating a 17-foot Boston Whaler in West Fox Creek Channel. That's when his boat hit another boat, a 22-foot Activator, heading north. Police say that boat was being operated by 19-year-old Ian Morgan, of Lindenhurst.
State police to patrol streets of Bridgeport today amid uptick in violence: Connecticut State Police Monday will begin patrolling the streets of Bridgeport amid a recent wave of fatal shootings. Troopers from the Troop G barracks in Bridgeport say they'll patrol the streets with Bridgeport officers seven days a week or until further notice. Three people were killed in separate shootings last week.
