Former Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore was sworn in Monday as the state's chief judge.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Court of Appeals in Albany.

DiFiore became the second woman to hold the title after the state Senate confirmed her in January. She was nominated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

DiFiore will serve until 2025, when she will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70.

County prosecutor James McCarty, a Republican, will serve as acting district attorney until the November elections. GOP officials say there are two candidates actively seeking the nomination: criminal attorney Bruce Bendish and former prosecutor Mitchell Benson.

On the Democratic side, retired judge Anthony Scarpino is exploring a run for the position, while criminal attorney George Fufidio has already started fundraising.
