Village of Briarcliff Manor Mayor Steve Vescio is pushing for state funding to overhaul Route 9A which he describes as outdated and dilapidated.

Vescio says that Route 9A, also known as the Briarcliff/Peekskill Parkway is in desperate need of the upgrades. He says it’s not just a matter of aesthetics, but public safety as well.

"This roadway has remained essentially the same for nearly 95 years," he says. "It's got narrow lanes, no breakdown lane, it has insufficient drainage because it was built so long ago. The on and off ramps are very short so it's dangerous to accelerate or decelerate.”

For Vescio, the fixes would be in the money. He's asking Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York State Assembly to allocate $20 million in the new state budget.

"It's past time to fix it, and I said that four years ago. Now we're really behind," he stresses.

The state constitution requires adoption of the budget by April 1. Vescio hopes that the funds for upgrading Route 9A will be included.
