People living on Warwick Avenue in Mount Vernon are frustrated with the state of their street and are demanding answers as to why their road hasn't been repaved when others in the area have.

The streets surrounding Warwick Avenue were recently paved. Jason Hauptman and his neighbors say they do not understand why this one was left alone.

"They hit the corner, and they come up the street then you hear bam, bam," says Hauptman. "You have to go down this road about 2 mph."

Mount Vernon city officials told News12 their crews have paved more than 100 streets in the last year.

But there is a problem. Some streets have sewer lines beneath them that need to be replaced.  It would be a waste of time and money to pave those streets just to have crews dig them up when they start the sewer work.

Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard tells News 12 that city officials are coordinating with Con Edison to pave an additional 120 roads where utility work is being done.  

There was a meeting yesterday to discuss funding for not only road repairs but also improving traffic signals and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, people in the neighborhood say they want Warwick Avenue fixed before their cars suffer real damage.
