It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at a home on Grassy Sprains Road.

Emergency crews say it started with heavy smoke and possible flames from the outside gutter trickling into the attic.

Firefighters got to work tackling the smoke. However, a Yonkers fire chief says they had to rotate fire crews to keep them cool in between shifts.

"The heat is a problem, you have temperatures like this and you are trying to carry equipment into the structure, it gets difficult," says Chief Michael Hanney, with the Yonkers Fire Department.

Fire crews say the damage to the home was primarily in the attic area. People were inside when all of this was going on. The fire chief says everyone made it out safely.

The arson team is investigating how the fire started which is standard protocol for reported structure fires.
