A program at an Ulster County prison is giving both inmates and horses a second chance.
The Second Chance rehabilitation program at the Wallkill Correctional Facility pairs inmates with horses. All the horses are former race horses, who are either retired or have been rescued from malnourishment or abuse.
The inmates are responsible for grooming and taking care of the horses. Prisoner Noel Jiminez says working with the horses has taught him patience and makes him feel less aggressive.
The program is paid for by the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.
