Reactor 3's power at the Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan is reduced this morning.
Officials from Entergy, the company that owns and operates the nuclear power plant, say valves that control water flow from the facility's heater drain tank opened unexpectedly. They say there is no threat of radioactivity being released, but aren't sure when the reactor will return to full power.
In March, a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage was extended for Reactor 2 for several weeks after it was discovered that 220 bolts were missing or damaged inside the reactor.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is deciding whether to relicense the over 40-year-old facility for another 20 years.
