Indian Point in Buchanan conducted emergency response drills Tuesday.
Officials say the exercises involved simulated airborne, waterborne and ground-based attacks, or a combination of all of them.
The goal of the drills was to test how plant personnel and government agencies throughout the Hudson Valley coordinate and deal with an attack against the nuclear power plant. FEMA organized training exercises in Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Westchester counties to ensure all first responders in the Hudson Valley are on the same page if a worst case scenario were to happen.
Officials say the Hostile Action-Based (HAB) emergency response included simulating the "use of violent force to destroy equipment, take hostages, and/or intimidate the licensee to achieve an end."
At one of the drills, first responders in Rockland County tested their ability to evacuate Tompkins Cove in the event of an emergency. Organizers say they want first responders to know exactly what to do if danger strikes.
