Ida flooding victims show support for climate change initiatives in Inflation Reduction Act

Flood victims and congressional candidate Catherine Parker called on the House of Representatives to pass the Inflation Reduction Act.
They held a news conference at the Waverly Avenue Bridge, which is located in the village’s flood zone.
The bill includes $369 billion to help mitigate climate change and aims to reduce carbon emissions roughly 40% by 2030. It also funds critical programs in energy security and climate change.
Parker urged Rep. Jamaal Bowman to pass the legislation when it comes to a House vote.
“Vote with the people that you represent,” she said. “Vote with all the people here that have put so much effort into fighting the ongoing battle with water in the Sound Shore, and water in our district.”
The House vote is expected to come on Friday. The Senate approved the measure Sunday.
Parker is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on Aug. 23.
