Police have released the name of a man killed in a fiery crash on I-84 in Putnam County.

Police say Thomas Cipolla, 52, of Beacon, died early Monday morning when he slammed into the wreckage of a tractor-trailer near exit 17 in the Town of Kent.

Investigators say the truck flipped over after hitting a guard rail, and Cipolla couldn’t avoid the crash.

Good Samaritans and the truck's driver pulled the man out of the burning car, but he later died from his injuries.

The investigation closed the roadway for more than nine hours Monday.
