Animal protection officers in Rockland County are searching for a deer whose snout is caught in a rat trap.
A family in the area of Pomona and Thiells spotted the deer about a week ago. They say that the trap is preventing the animal from eating.
The Hudson Valley Humane Society is now trying to capture the deer and safely remove the trap. President Anne-Marie Gaudio says the deer was last spotted near a wooded area north of Route 202, east of the Palisades Parkway.
Police say their plan is to somehow trap and tranquilize the deer. Veterinarians say they believe that using a stun gun may be the safest and most humane way to immobilize the animal.
Anyone who has seen the injured deer is asked to call the Hudson Valley Humane Society at 845-354-3124.
