Over 70 veterans from the Hudson Valley were invited to take an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Local veterans, including 52 from Westchester, gathered at Westchester Airport to be honored by Honor Flight Network, a nonprofit organization created to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices.

The organization transports the veterans to Washington, D.C., where they can visit and reflect at their memorials, including the World War II Memorial, Vietnam and Korean War memorials.

Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors and those veterans who may be terminally ill.

“[Former Honor Flight riders] all said it’s a wonderful thing and you’ll enjoy yourself immensely,” said one of this year’s participating veterans.

The journey was set to be livestreamed all day on Facebook as the veterans were escorted to the memorials and for their warm welcoming home from the public at the airport around 8 p.m.
