Two Hudson Valley Hassidic communities are now mourning the loss of three young men who died in a stampede, following a Jewish holy celebration Thursday night in Israel.

At least 45 people died following overcrowding conditions at a Lag Ba’Omer celebration in a rural area of Israel.

Three of them are from the Orthodox Jewish communities of Kiryas Joel and Monsey, including 33-year-old Shragi Gestetner.

His relative, Rockland activist Yossi Gestetner, spoke to News 12 about the tragic loss.

“It’s mind boggling the level of pain from one second to the next, from a joyous moment once a year," says Gestetner.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a statement Friday saying he’s heartbroken by the tragedy.

Authorities say about 150 people were injured in the stampede, with nearly two dozen people in critical condition.
