Organizations throughout the Hudson Valley are sharing holiday reminders to keep residents safe.

If a fire erupts while cooking a holiday meal, the Putnam Health Department recommends using a baking sheet or lid to smother it.

The department does not recommend using water on a grease fire but a dry chemical fire extinguisher instead.

The Brewster Fire Department is also reminding residents to keep the Chrismas tree watered. If the needles are falling off, it could mean the tree is drying out, which increases the risk of a fire.
