Hudson Valley hospitality industry facing employee shortage crisis

Restaurant, bar and hotel owners say they are having a hard time trying to find workers, despite their continued efforts with online help wanted ads.

The hospitality industry in Westchester and the Hudson Valley are going through an employee shortage crisis.
Economy experts say the employee shortage could be caused by a combination of things – workers may have left the industry, some are too scared to come back and others are still collecting unemployment.

Peter Herrero owns three restaurant and catering businesses, including Sam’s of Gedway Way in White Plains. He says he's never seen it this bad.
"We are training from scratch, looking for other industries to bring people in, through friends, through family, through bonuses," he says.
On Wednesday, the Westchester Business Council is holding a Hospitality and Retail Summit at 9 a.m. to talk about the workforce shortage and challenges. The meeting will be held virtually.
