Whether your Memorial Day plans include flying or driving, plan to pack some patience for the ride.
According to the American Automobile Association, more than 38 million Americans are heading out for the Memorial Day weekend. It represents an increase of about 700,000 people from last year, which is the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume ever.
But there is some good news for road trippers. AAA says drivers can expect the lowest Memorial Day gas prices in more than a decade. AAA reports the current national average is about $2.30 per gallon - 34 cents lower than last year.
Even though gas and airline ticket prices are lower this year, the U.S. Travel Association says Americans will likely spend more, with about $320 on average. Compared with last year, there's an expected nearly 4 percent increase in travel through New York airports from Friday through Tuesday.
To help with traffic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered road and bridge construction projects on New York state highways to be suspended through Tuesday.
