Local representatives came together Monday for Hudson Valley Goes Pink and pledged to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, and representatives from four other counties announced how the Hudson Valley will promote breast cancer awareness during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
All counties, including Rockland and Westchester, will be holding special events this month including free cancer screenings for uninsured women and "wear pink" days to spread awareness about breast cancer, which affects one in eight women across the country.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says he'll wear pink every day this month and county Deputy Sheriff cars will be adorned with these pink ribbons for all of October.
In particular, there are two breast cancer walks in the Hudson Valley this month. One will take place at Woodbury Commons and the other at Manhattanville College in Purchase.
Those events are predicted to attract 30,000 walkers.
In Orange County, Neuhaus says deputy sheriff cars will adorn pink breast cancer awareness ribbons.
