A house fire in Yonkers sent a retired Yonkers deputy police chief to the hospital Friday.

Fire officials say neighbors on Amackassin Terrace saw smoke around 12:20 a.m. and called for help. Firefighters had to break through a locked door where they found a man unconscious. Firefighters were able to revive him on the front lawn.

The victim is identified as retired Yonkers Deputy Police Chief Edward Jones. Officials say Jones suffered burns over 20 percent of his body and is being treated at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. Fire officials say the fire started in the living room of the home and appears to be accidental.
