The combination of summer-like temperatures and the lack of air-conditioning led to the partial closing of the Westchester County Courthouse Tuesday.
"Even now you can feel the heat," says visitor Martha Mattauszk. "They could use a little A/C."
However, the county-run building has a system that requires a changeover from heat to air-conditioning, which does not happen until May.
CSEA Local 1000 President Rose Impallomeni says the courthouse windows are also sealed shut, leaving fans as the only source of relief from the heat.
"All I want is some consideration for the employees I represent and the employees of other unions," Impallomeni says.
Impallomeni also says that judges working in the building were notified of the heat problem in advance, but not union members.
All non-essential court personnel were allowed to leave for the day just after 3 p.m.
