The Bronx's own Hostos Community College made a special trip to the White House to meet with the president.
Interim President David Gomez joined hundreds of other top educators from across the country in the nation's capital for the White House College Opportunity Day of Action. The initiative is aimed at finding ways to help more students prepare for and graduate from college.
The group met with both President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama to discuss the challenges facing students who are trying to achieve a higher education.
Gomez says Hostos will be implementing a host of programs to help more students succeed, with a goal of increasing its graduation rate by at least 50 percent in the next two years.
