Four individuals were transported to the hospital following a police chase that culminated in a head-on collision.
The incident unfolded on Riverdale Avenue and the scene was described as harrowing, particularly due to the road's high traffic volume. Video footage captured the severity of the situation.
The events transpired around 4 p.m. yesterday. Law enforcement officers were in pursuit of a driver known for evading traffic stops, according to police sources. Despite previous encounters, the driver again chose not to halt, leading to a chase down Riverdale Avenue. Near Radford Street, the driver executed a sharp left turn.
The pursuing officers followed the same path, but apparently lost control of their vehicle upon hitting the curb. The loss of control resulted in a head-on collision with a Porsche traveling in the opposite lane.
The collision left two officers and the driver and passenger of the Porsche requiring hospitalization. The area had to be closed off for an extended period to facilitate an exhaustive investigation that encompassed 3D mapping and crash reconstruction.
Carlos Aquino, a Yonkers resident, shared, "I saw the ambulance come and they put like a cop on the stretcher, and then… I saw they had the jaws of life … so they opened it and I saw both of them, and I thought, oh shoot, this must be serious."
Reports indicate that both officers and the occupants of the other vehicle are currently in stable condition. The suspect who prompted the chase managed to evade capture. However, law enforcement agencies assert they have identified the individual and are actively searching for him.
