Clarkstown South High School’s Stars and Stripes club held its first veterans day brunch in West Nyack on Friday.

They came together to serve those who served our country.

The students are said to be on a mission to foster patriotism, as well as give back to veterans and first responders.

“We need to recognize those who fought for our freedoms. I feel like that's something we can never forget,” said River Traitz, one of the students in the group.

It was standing room only for their first veterans brunch. News 12 is told they hope to hold it every year.

Veterans of different ages and branches came together with their families.

"It's encouraging to see the youth participate in something like this,” said Eddie Frank. The West Nyack man is a Vietnam Veteran who served with the Navy.

"It's really nice to see members of our community coming together and putting together an event like this especially considering how young they are,” said Nick Sannicandro, a West Nyack man with the Air National Guard.

Local officials in attendance also thanked those heroes in our community and the young people who lead the charge to make the day happen. While the students did fundraise to cover costs, many local restaurants donated food free of charge. News 12 is told those businesses include Napoli’s, Valley Cottage Pizza, Doro’s, La Terrazza, River Court on Main, and Rocco’s.
