Several Brooklyn neighborhoods continue to move in the wrong direction, according to the city’s Health Department, when it comes to number of positive COVID-19 cases.
Last week Mayor Bill de Blasio threatened to shut down nonessential businesses in the neighborhood seeing an uptick in cases.
The mayor said if progress wasn’t made by Monday, he would be taking action.
As of this weekend, the highest numbers are coming out of Gravesend, where the Health Department says 6.75% of people getting tested have had positive results. Other neighborhoods where the city says the numbers have increased, include, Midwood, Borough Park, Bensonhurst, Gerritsen Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Flatlands, Kensington, Windsor Terrace, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach and Sheepshead Bay.
The city says four ZIP codes in Queens also hadan increase in positive cases.
The Health Department says these neighborhoods account for more than 20% of new cases citywide in the past two weeks.
The department says it has seen an uptick in the number of patients into hospitals in Brooklyn and at least in one in Queens. The mayor says they are monitoring mask compliance in these neighborhoods, saying that people need to be wearing a mask if they cannot maintain six feet of distance.
News 12 is told they are also observing parts of Williamsburg, where they’ve seen an increase, but say it’s not as high as these other neighborhoods.
