HEADLINES: Police shortage in Mount Vernon, Newburgh porch pirate, subway cutbacks
Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Mount Vernon police are issuing an urgent warning about staffing issues. The police association posted a message on its Facebook page saying there are not enough officers to patrol city streets. The PBA is calling on city leaders to address the issue immediately saying staffing shortages are well beyond the point of being "critical."
The search continues this morning for a porch pirate in Newburgh. Video sent to News 12 by the owner of an Orange County home shows the suspect putting the boxes under his shirt and then trying to get in her house last week. If you recognize the suspect, please call Newburgh police at (845) 561-3131.
There is a commuter alert if you're taking the subway throughout the week. The MTA is cutting back its service amid the latest COVID-19 surge. Officials say reduced scheduling will help put train crews where they're needed most, which can help avoid canceled trips.
