A Ramapo man was arrested and charged with assault after allegedly attacking two police officers who responded to a call at his home, police said. Officers responded to a call about a disturbance at a home on Helen Court. When they arrived, they found the door of the home had been kicked in and a window was smashed, police said. Officers saw Ovidio Aguilar-Oliva attempting to gain entry to the home. When officers approached him, he became combative, police said. Two officers sustained injuries during the altercation, one suffered a dislocated shoulder, police said. Aguilar-Oliva was subsequently arrested and charged with assault and resisting arrest, police said. It was later learned that Aguilar-Oliva resides at the home and had been too intoxicated to unlock the door, police said.
Newburgh police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning, authorities said. Police found one victim dead of gunshot wounds at approximately 12:01 a.m. on Monument Street. A second victim was found at Montefiore Saint Luke's Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 845-569-7509.
Police are investigating a shooting that injured a man Saturday morning. Police say gunfire was first reported near the corner of Main and North White streets and shortly after, a man arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. The circumstances leading up to the shooting and the identity of the shooter are still under investigation. No arrests have been made.
