Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Mount Vernon police have arrested a man and charged him with the death of his wife. Police say officers responded to 10 Rich Ave. on April 11 to check on the well-being of Kaya Green after friends hadn't heard from her in several days. Officers found Green dead from multiple stab wounds and trauma to the head. Green's husband, Kurt Fisher, was identified as a suspect and it took weeks before investigators found evidence linking Fisher to the crime, and had his whereabouts confirmed. He was arrested on May 18 in Manhattan.
A man has pleaded guilty in a deadly shooting last year in Nyack. Jason Jabouin confessed to manslaughter for killing 30-year-old Ryan Franklin of West Haverstraw. Jabouin is now facing 20 years in prison. He is expected to be sentenced in September.
A teen has been arrested for a shooting in Mount Vernon. Police say 19-year-old Kordell Reid was in his Bell Avenue home when he opened fire on a 52-year-old man Wednesday afternoon. The victim is in stable but critical condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
The New York State Housing Authority is offering an additional $1,000 to the $5,000 PETA reward originally offered to find the person responsible for the abuse and abandonment of a dog found lying in the middle of the road in Southeast on May 17. The dog was found lying in the middle of the road near Sodom Road and Brewster Hill. A good Samaritan who was driving at 4 a.m. on Saturday, spotted the animal, grabbed the dog and brought him to a nearby animal hospital. The mastiff-bulldog mix was found to be severely underweight, with broken bones and swollen paws.
