Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A Spring Valley woman has been sentenced to nine months in prison for the death of her 1-year-old son. Marie Dorleus pleaded guilty to the crime in October, knocking her manslaughter charge down to criminally negligent homicide after her 1-year-old suffocated from being pinned between a box spring and a wall. The boy and his two other siblings – ages 2 and 6 - were home alone for over four hours - something the prosecutor says was a regular occurrence. Dorleus has already served six months, and her sentencing is being reduced even further because of good behavior. Her attorney tells News 12 she will be out by the weekend.
A home was destroyed by fire overnight in Bedford. Fire officials say flames broke out around midnight at the home on Meadow Brook Road. Numerous fire departments tried to extinguish the flames, which News 12 is told were shooting through the roof. The family living in the home was able to escape with no injuries. News 12 is told a fireplace had been used earlier in the evening and that it's believed the fire was related to a problem in the chimney.
Monticello and Fallsburg school districts will be back in session Thursday after threats in both districts were deemed not credible. Students and faculty at both schools were instructed to stay home because of the threatening posts. The Fallsburg Central School District said the threat was made by someone who is not a student or a member of the school's community. They're expected to face charges because of the posts.
