A dramatic rescue took place in the Kohl's parking lot on Central Avenue during Thursday's storm. Fire officials arrived to find a car submerged in at least three feet of water, with a pregnant woman trapped inside unable to open her door. Fire crews swiftly inflated a rescue boat, maneuvered it to the car, and assisted the woman out through a window. They safely transported her to dry land.
A chase involving a motorcycle in Mahopac concluded with an arrest. According to police, on May 11, they attempted to pull over the rider for a rear license plate that wasn't visible. The chase ensued down Route 6 by the Mahopac Shopping Center until the bike broke down. The 28-year-old man was arrested, issued 60 tickets, and charged with reckless driving and fleeing a police officer.
A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier has been arrested for targeting victims on her Mount Vernon mail route in a fraud and identity theft scheme. Tameka Babulal allegedly stole credit cards, checks, and identities from the mail, with her husband also facing charges. Upon searching their home, investigators discovered dozens of credit cards and checks in other people's names, along with several bundles of undelivered mail. Babulal has been indefinitely suspended from her job with the Postal Service.
