Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A motorcyclist was fatally struck by a car Monday night in the Town of Wallkill. Police say it happened around 9:30 p.m. at State Route 211 East and Tower Drive. They say a car driven by Juan Castillo, 37, of Wallkill struck a motorcycle driven by George Marse, 56, of Port Jervis. Marse was pronounced dead at Garnet Health Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation.
The lawyers for former NBA star and Mount Vernon native Ben Gordon says he's now focusing on his health after failing to show up in court. Gordon was arrested two weeks ago in Connecticut for allegedly threatening an employee at a local juice shop with a knife. Police say Gordon was acting erratically and resisted arrest. Officials say Gordon has not received any clinical diagnosis so far and is due back in court July 11.
A Port Chester man is now behind bars for allegedly scamming a 77-year-old grandma out of $9,500. Police say a caller claimed to be the woman's grandson and he was in legal trouble in another state in October.
He told her money was needed so he could be released from jail. The grandmother agreed to pay and a suspect soon arrived to collect the money. After a monthslong investigation, police arrested Jorge Luis Duche from Port Chester Tuesday. He is now being held at the county jail.
