HBO producer David Simon was in Yonkers Monday night to discuss his new show about the city's desegregation case from the 1980s and 90s.
The new six-part series called "Show Me a Hero" will tell the tale of how that case sparked an explosive housing revolution that changed neighborhoods across America.
Vinnie Restiano, who became Yonkers' first female city council president in 1991, will be played by Winona Ryder in the series. Restiano says Ryder wrote her a handwritten note that read, "I can't wait to play you, thank you for meeting with me."
Dozens attended the question-and-answer session with Simon, who spoke about what drew him to the story and how relevant he feels the issue still is. The series is expected to debut next year.
