Haverstraw's first legal cannabis dispensary officially opens

202 Cannabis Co. on West Ramapo Road (Route 202) in Garnerville is officially open for business in what used to be a bank.
It's the first legal and licensed cannabis dispensary in the town of Haverstraw.
Husband and wife, Gregory and Milka Pereira, are the owners.
While there are people who don't agree with marijuana use and believe it has negative health impacts, Gregory, who spent years helping those with substance abuse and harm reduction, says he's seen cannabis make a difference in peoples lives including family members.
"Between alcohol and cannabis. Nobody has bar fights with cannabis." Pereira said. "It's one of the things I think can help our community health wise."
They offer a variety of different items including kosher goods.
There's even a drive-thru for customers who don't want to go into the store.
The family-owned business celebrated opening on Wednesday after a year-long process of approvals.
Now, it is one of more than 370 adult use dispensaries across the state, according to New York's Office of Cannabis Management.
