A popular restaurant on the Haverstraw waterfront is back in business nearly three years after being destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

Civile's Venice On the Hudson sat vacant for two years after the storm until restaurateur Gary Oteri and builder Bob Milone came together to conceptualize a new restaurant, 16 Front Street.

"I saw a vision. I don't think the Hudson is developed enough," Oteri said Monday. "With the view of the Hudson, it's a beautiful spot and it will bring people to Haverstraw."

The owners rebuilt the restaurant from the ground up, expanding the dining room and ensured that it is hurricane-proof. They also changed the menu, which now focuses on American cuisine instead of Italian.

The restaurant officially opens for business next Tuesday and will be open all year.

The building is owned by the village of Haverstraw, but the owners have a 25-year lease.
