About 305,000 borrowers have been told to pay the wrong amount. Some borrowers have reported seeing numbers higher than what they owe each month.

The Department of Education says it's working to fix the problem.

Impacted borrowers will be in forbearance until the issue is fixed. The issue only affects about 1% of borrowers.
