Hartsdale firefighters rescued one of their own Sunday after a fireman fell into a trench outside the firehouse.
Officials say 27-year-old Seth Granville was coming into work when he apparently slipped on ice near the trench and slid into a hole. An injured Granville used his cell phone to call his firehouse, which was just 20 feet away. Firefighters pulled Granville to safety while ensuring the trench wouldn't collapse. Fire officials say Granville is in stable condition.
The hole is part of a construction project to install a sprinkler system. The incident comes after a January 19 fire at the firehouse. Firefighters say they hope their bad luck ends soon. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the fall to ensure safety precautions were followed at the work site.
