A Hartsdale family is finding Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) their biggest advocate in the fight for stem cell research.
Lorraine Valentini was in a terrible cycling accident on Memorial Day of 2005 that left her paralyzed from the neck down. Her friends and family, affectionately known as ?Team Lorraine,? rallied on her behalf. Members of Team Lorraine met with Schumer, who is a strong proponent of stem cell research, at the Greenburgh Town Hall Friday.
Schumer first met Valentini?s supporters after the Stem Cell Research bill was passed in the House and Senate. The group suffered a setback after President Bush vetoed the bill on July 19, which would have increased the number of stem cell lines that can be used for research. Schumer says he is now trying to organize a Congressional override of Bush's veto, which would give the bill a second chance.
