Harrison hosted its annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony on Saturday with people of all ages attending the event.

"People should see the vets and understand what they went through. A lot of them are handicapped," Rayot Difate, a veteran, said.

Here are some resources for veterans and military families

According to the town's Veterans Affairs officer, Joe Mazzullo, around 30 vets participated in the parade. They marched from the West Harrison Fire Department all the way up to West Harrison's Honor Roll marker where the ceremony took place.

"We're going to have a couple of short speeches and commemorate the fact that the guys survived and they're here," Mazzullo said.

Several branches of the military were represented at the parade. Many of the veterans proudly put their medals on display and shared stories from their time in the service with others.

"Going into the military was a good thing for me," Difate said. "I liked the military. It made me grow up."

It was part of the reason why many of the veterans said they look forward to attending this event every year.

"It should never fade.... You see this country...it's because of veterans," Mazzullo said.
