Horse racing fans will be able to place their bets after a year-and-a-half wait as harness racing is finally back on track at Yonkers Raceway.
In October, the long-awaited multi-million dollar Empire City Casino opened its doors at the racetrack with more than 1,800 video lottery terminals. Then the raceway got slapped with 64 fire code violations by the state. Those violations extended to the track and opening day was put on hold before the state would issue a racing license.
Horses could been seen Friday on the track training. Many others will travel to Yonkers for the races. The horses will leave the starting gate at 7:40 p.m.
