Downed power lines made for an inconvenient morning for people in one Tuckahoe neighborhood today.
Con Ed officials say high winds knocked down some lines around 10 a.m. on Van Durzen Place. They say a "cross phase" occurred, meaning the power lines touched, emitting 13,000 volts of energy. One line came down on the sidewalk and not only melted concrete but a few trash bins as well.
Officials tell News 12 it was lucky that Van Durzen Place is not a busy street and people weren't walking in the area. No one was injured.
Power was lost in the area temporarily as it took Con Ed about 20 minutes to fix the power lines.
