A Mount Vernon woman who was nine months pregnant was shot in the abdomen Saturday night as she went to visit her grandmother.
According to Mount Vernon police, at about 8:30 p.m. they received a domestic dispute call at a house near the corner of North Tenth Street and Washington Place. Police say they found the 26-year-old woman shot at least once with a small caliber gun. She was rushed to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx where doctors performed an emergency cesarean surgery to save the full-term baby.
Police arrested one suspect in connection with the shooting, but have not released the name of either the suspect or the victim.
