A year and a day after the death of Rene Perez, there is a call to help solve the cases of four other illegal immigrants who mysteriously died.
Hispanics Across America President Fernando Mateo is asking the Latino community in Mount Kisco and Bedford to come forward with any information they may have about the deaths of Rene Perez and four other illegal immigrants. The April 2007 death of Perez, a homeless immigrant from Mount Kisco, led to outrage in the Latin community. Mount Kisco Police Officer George Bubaris was arrested four months later on manslaughter charges. Now, Mateo and others believe four other Guatemalan immigrants may have been victimized by police.
?Five people murdered in Westchester County, all had run-ins with the police department and all were alcoholics," says Mateo.
In 2003, Santos Bohorgez was found strangled. The next year, Roberto Martinez was also found strangled. Two others, Carlos Rodriguez and Jose Manuel Soto were found dead in Bedford and Mount Kisco under what Mateo calls suspicious circumstances.
While holding a large photo of Rene Perez, Mateo hoped area Latinos would be inspired to act. Mateo says he is satisfied by the Westchester district attorney?s investigations, but now the people must do their part.Communitymarks year since Rene Perez's deathTrialset for ex-Mt.
