Two juveniles have been arrested and three more suspects were identified after video of an attack on a teenage girl went viral, according to Greenwich police. The footage is disturbing and shows multiple teens beating the victim, while a group watches on with some people cheering and others recording.

It happened Tuesday night at Byram Park. Police said they responded there around 8:25 p.m. after a noise complaint about a loud group.

“While breaking up this crowd, we learned there was a teenager who had been assaulted by several people. She got taken to the hospital to be checked out. There are no serious injuries that we know of as of right now. She was released from the hospital,” said Capt. John Slusarz.

Slusarz told News 12 that as police investigated, calls came in from the community.

“We were made aware that there was a bunch of social media posts—videos of the assault—popping up on all these websites,” he said.

It’s unclear what initially started the fighting. In one video, during an apparent break in the brawl, the victim is sitting on the ground and says, “Hit me again,” followed by a racial slur, leading to her being attacked again.

Slusarz said the group was made up of about 20-25 teens from Greenwich, Stamford and Port Chester, most of them underage. He didn’t comment on the motive, saying investigators are working to also determine what isn't on the videos.

“They're only one aspect. Our detectives are going out and speaking with them and trying to put together everybody's story,” Slusarz stated.

Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo said he was appalled by the video and a little angry that it happened in town.

“Our police department is all over it. We had three different sections of the police department—patrol, detectives and special victims units—all looking at it and still investigating it. There were five suspects identified. Two have been arrested and three are pending,” Camillo told News 12.

Police did not release the ages, charges or towns of those involved. They also thanked the public for help providing information and identifying people in the videos.

“Their response to this has been extremely helpful to move this investigation forward,” Slusarz said.
