The Greenwich Board of Education is debating a plan to move back the start time of the school day for all public schools in the district.
The board is considering changing the schedules after a doctors' group recommended classes not start before 8:30 a.m. Currently, high school classes start at 7:30 a.m., and middle school starts at 7:45 a.m.
Some board members say the community needs to be included in the discussion. "I think one of the things the board should be doing at that higher level where we should be living is promoting the health of the students, promoting this information, educating teachers, educating parents in the community," says Board of Education member Gaetane Francis.
The Board of Ed will hold a number of sessions for parents during the next month. The superintendent will present a recommendation in May.
