A Greenburgh woman is being asked to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix a sinkhole that opened up in her yard.

Michelle Minott says a massive sinkhole that extends several feet underground has been taking over her property over the last few years ever since a pipe burst.

Minott says the sinkhole is growing fast, and worries about the winter months ahead. She says contractors who have assessed the damage estimate it will cost six figures.

However, she claims contractors told her the bill should be handed to the Town of Greenburgh, not her. But according to Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, they are not legally responsible.

"If Greenburgh was responsible, we would fix it, but we're not allowed by state law to fix anything on private property," says Feiner.

Minott said in response she doesn't think that is right, considering the damage expands to multiple properties.
