Greenburgh students are getting to help businesses in developing countries take a step in the right direction - with a shoe drive.

Samantha Ives, the Greenburgh Highview Elementary PTA vice president and shoe fund drive chair says by doing the fundraiser, they are teaching them about developing countries and micro entrepreneurship.

She says they can learn that the things they throw away don't have to go to the trash, and that they can have a life and benefit people who genuinely need them.

Donated shoes will be purchased by Funds2Orgs at 40 cents per pound.  It then partners with organizations that sell the shoes to "micro businesses" in countries including Uganda, Haiti and India.

Only shoes in wearable condition are given to businesses. Those that aren’t are sent to developing nations capable of recycling them to create other products.
