A brush with death led a Rockland man to start an annual run that helps people in need.
The Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship 5K-10K run was held at Rockland Lake Saturday.
Ed Ilarraza says he decided to organize the run after he had a heart attack and stroke three years ago at his church that stopped his heart for 30 minutes.
Ilarraza says he credits his survival to God and prayer, and wants the run to be his way of giving back to others in need.
This year, there were 495 registered runners.
According to its website, all proceeds from the event will support school projects for children in Tanzania, Africa and Haiti.
